5 Questions for Christian O’Connell

Where did you write Radio Boy?

At home and in my shed. No I really did go to my shed and write. It’s a very nice shed. I would also suddenly get ideas during my radio show and write them into my phone.

Who is your favourite character in Radio Boy and why?

That’s a tough question Cranleigh School! Spike is a bit like me as a kid so I can relate to him very easily. I wasn’t very good at sports at school and a bit awkward at times . I based the Karate teacher Sensei Terry on my old karate teacher who was a hairdresser, Sensei Simon. I love how many readers like Sensei Terry and want his own spin off story.

How long did it take you to write Radio Boy?

Longer than I thought! I had a job and do a breakfast radio show every day, so I had to fit it in around that and doing a stand up tour. So about 8 months.

What advice do you have for young writers?
